Part of Avtex site testing ends today

The second phase of testing sections for the former Avtex fibers plant in Front Royal is scheduled to end today, a project spokeswoman said.

Soil sampling in three less contaminated areas of the Environmental Protection Agency Superfund site began Tuesday, said Caroline Oppelman, a project associate with, Environmental Issues Management. Results aren't yet available from the first phase, a geophysical survey, she said.

The testing is needed to determine whether the area is safe for the Warren County Redevelopment Corp. to offer for use by industries.
