Preliminary steps toward making the former Avtex Fibers plant usable again will begin Monday, according to Jocelyn White, president of Environmental Issues Management, which provides community relations assistance to the FMC Corp.

FMC, a former owner of the Avtex site in Front Royal, will fund the geophysical survey to be done on several areas the Warren County Redevelopment Corp. wants to offer to industries, Ms. White said. The survey, to determine what is underground, will be done on both sides of the guard gate at the plant's entrance off Kendrick Lane, she said.

Soil samples, scheduled to be taken in July, will come from the area around the guard gate and a nearby parking lot, she said.

Those areas were selected because they are "the easiest to address," Ms. White said.
