A federal grant of $275,000 has been approved in Congress to help clean up the Avtex Fibers Superfund site in Front Royal. The approval is a grant to the Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority included in Congress’s annual appropriations process at the request of Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.-10th). "This grant will be a step in the right direction to help finally clean up this property and return it to productive use," he said. Wolf had written to Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Appropriations Committee on VA, HUD, requesting the funds after the Warren County Board of Supervisors wrote and asked him to intervene. The grant will be used to remove asbestos and lead paint at the site.
