THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA DAILY June 09, 1993 Critics of cleanup to attend meeting By Daily Staff Report Members of the Industrial Redevelopment Committee will attend the public meeting the Environmental Protection Agency has scheduled for June 16 in Front Royal on the progress of the cleanup of the former Avtex Fibers plant. But they decided Tuesday not to speak as a group. If members attend the meeting, Vice Chairman William Barnett said, they should identify themselves as part of the group created to smooth the way for redevelopment of the huge Superfund site. The group has been critical of the speed of the EPAs cleanup of the site. Committee Chairman Fred Foster said the last public meeting the agency held two years ago was well attended. He said he hopes the turnout is high at this meeting as well. The agency announced Monday that long-term study of contamination at the site, done by the FMC Corp., a former owner of the site, and EPA, will start next week The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Warren County Courthouse. |
