THE WARREN SENTINEL June 12, 1993 In brief Daily Staff Report Mowing at old Avtex plant to start soon Things will soon look less shaggy at the idle Avtex Fibers plant when the FMC Corp., a former owner of the plant, starts mowing the grass. Anthony H. Murray Jr., trustee for the bankrupt Avtex estate, ran out of money and had to lay off the plants maintenance staff about a month ago. That included people who mowed the grass and kept greenery from retaking the place. But on Friday, Katharine Blow of Environmental Issues Management, which is working for FMC, said FMC, which owned the plant from 1963 through 1976, will pitch in to keep the place trim. The cost to the company will be a few hundred dollars a month, she said. The money will go to the trustee, who will hire someone to mow. FMC also continues to operate the factory's waste water treatment plant and will be starting a testing program shortly to determine the extent of contamination of parts of the plant and the best way to clean it up. |
